Cherry and Pine Chest of Drawers, probably New England, early 19th century. Solid rectangular top mortised underneath to rest on top edge of sides, the half-round molded edge overhanging straight case of five drawers separated by sliding half-dovetailed cherry dividers, each drawer constructed of dovetailed pine with scratch-beaded cherry fronts fitted with period brasses having stamped garland-decorated escutcheon and bales impressed 'A A' or 'V V' underneath, the back enclosed with four nailed horizontal boards, and the bottom with full dustboard, raised on bracket feet cut into sides and backboard, concealed at front and returns with applied cyma curve skirt molding, later red stained surfaces, (repairs), 99cm wide, 45cm deep, 114cm high (39in wide, 18in deep, 45in high).
