Three pieces by John & William Ridgway (1813-30) of Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire, all with 'Beauties of America' Series border, include a sauce boat and tea cup depicting view of the Boston State House after an 1817 engraving, together with an almond-form vegetable dish with shaped rim depicting view of the Charleston Exchange in well, erroneously identified as 'Bank, Savannah' by printed mark on bottom. One oblate tray with impressed mark of John Rogers & Son (1815-42) of Longport, Staffordshire, depicts a view of the Boston State House across the Common populated with grazing cows and sheep. One unmarked charger has shaped rim enclosing feather- and shell-molded relief border, over-printed with a marly pattern of an alternating Corinthian capital and floral bouquet, the well centering a romantic pattern of ancient Greek ruins at Morea. Together with a badly damaged Liverpool-type jug printed in black, one side with mourning scene entitled 'Washington in Glory / America in Tears', the other wall depicting 'The Shipwright's Arms', an oval reserve at frontispiece inscribed 'JMC' in overglaze black enamel, above a smaller United States Seal containing sixteen stars.
