Four Queen Anne Walnut and Mahogany Chairs, probably New England, 18th century and later. Matched group includes one armchair with spurred, relief-carved walnut yoke continuing to rounded shoulders, these tenoned to ogee-shaped stiles centering a solid vasiform splat with chamfered back edge, carved hardwood armrests tenoned and pinned to stiles from exterior, terminating on outward-scrolling volute handholds and raised on carved C-scroll supports lapped and rabbeted over stretchers of the trapezoidal slip-seat, the front panel of which is solid tiger maple with cut-out scalloped border, draw-jointed at corners to carved cabriole forelegs on platformed pad feet and raking chamfered square legs at rear, all braced with full turned and blocked stretcher base. One similarly carved and constructed side chair with walnut and mahogany components, the number 'VII' inscribed on front seat rail and one later Queen Anne-style mahogany side chair of the same pattern with compressed yoke and slight squaring to shoulders, the cabriole legs not planed to receive round-tenoned stretchers as on the earlier side chairs. And one similar walnut side chair with high-relief spurred yoke, low pad feet, and cylinder-turned and blocked rear legs, (refinishing, imperfections), armchair, 73cm wide, 60cm deep, 99cm high (29in wide, 24in deep, 39 7/8in high).
