Alfred Lucas (British, 19th Century), after Sir Edwin Henry Landseer RA (British, 1802-1873) 'Fairy', Lady Bulwer's favourite Spaniel engraving round 39cm (15 3/8in) published in 1849 Footnotes: Another impression of this engraving can be found in the collection of the British Museum, and it is listed in Algernon Graves's Catalogue of the Works of the late Sir Edwin Landseer, R.A. (London, 1874). Another version of this work, drawn on stone and printed by Thomas Fairland, can be seen in the British Museum Collection and two other examples are in the Royal Collection Trust. The Cavalier was the property of Lady Emily Elizabeth Bulwer-Lytton (1828-1848), daughter of Mrs Rosina Doyle Bulwer-Lytton, (1802 -1882), the novelist, and Edward Lytton Bulwer (1803-1873), the author and poet of fantasies and fairy tales. Alfred Lucas was a line, stipple and mezzotint engraver who specialised in large sentimental subjects after Edwin Landseer.
