A Second World War D.F.C to Wing Commander James Hay, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve Together with his Observer's and Air Gunner's Flying Log Book for 1941-44, riband bar for uniform, assorted photographs, silk map of Northern Europe, investiture invitation and duplicate letter, tags, and other ephemera, (qty) Footnotes: D.F.C. London Gazette 3.12.1943 His logbook begins in July 1941 where he notes his flying hours for a local flight consisting of 'air experience & map reading' on July 22nd. Many elementary procedures seem to be carried out throughout July and August. Hay seems to start night flights in October and continues with other exercises. After passing his 'AB Initio Bombing Course', he participated in 'low level bombing' in March and April of 1942. There are course results pasted into the logbook throughout, including those for navigation, gunnery and bombing. The logbook ends with an entry on July 12th, 1944, stating 'tours'.
