Paresh Maity (B.1965) Untitled (Faces & Bird) signed 'Paresh Maity' lower right; further inscribed with the artists name, size, year and medium verso oil on canvas, framed 90.2 x 152cm (35 1/2 x 59 13/16in). Footnotes: Provenance Property from a private collection, London. Known for his ability to capture the essence of his subjects with fluidity and grace, here Maity presents three faces and an avian form. Each face, rendered with bold strokes and expressive lines, depicted in hues of yellows and blues exudes its own distinct personality. The bird by contrast stands alone, and appears to be gliding into the canvas. Juxtaposed against the faces, two facing directly towards it and one towards the viewer, the bird is the only one to have a clear eye, which looks directly at us. The composition both mysterious and enchanting blurs the boundaries between reality and imagination and illustrates Maity's ability to turn the mundane into the sublime.
