George Keyt (1901-1993) Untitled (Lovers) signed and dated 'G.Keyt 81' upper left acrylic on canvas, framed 69 x 68cm (27 3/16 x 26 3/4in). A recurring theme in Keyt's artistic production is the depiction of lovers, which stems from the Radha Krishna tradition that highlights the opposition and harmonious union of the male and the female. Untitled (Lovers) is a fantastic illustration of the Buddhist Tantric concepts of eroticism, sensuality and love. The painting depicts a woman and a man in a tight embrace. The roughness of the man is represented by the darker skin whilst the lighter tone of the female is used to illustrate her purity and gracefulness. They have elongated eyes and perfect geometry reminiscent of ancient Indian sculpture and European cubism.
