A FREDERICK HART PATINATED BRONZE FIGURAL GROUP: DAUGHTERS OF ODESSA: SISTERS Frederick Elliot Hart (1943-1999), 1997 Signed and dated F. E. HART 97 with foundry mark to bronze. height 48in (122cm) Footnotes: Frederick Elliot Hart (American, 1943-1999) began his career working with Italian stone masons at the Washington National Cathedral. Though working at the height of abstract and conceptual art, Hart steadfastly practiced figural sculpture. Hart actively criticized abstract art movements and preached the importance of beauty. His work at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. gave Hart the perfect stage to create these awe-striking works. Daughters of Odessa: Sisters, is an allegorical representation of the innocent victims of the 20th century. Hart depicts martyrdom as shown through the fragility of life and the enduring values of beauty.
