Inscriptions: to the mace, possibly 'Sultan ibn al-Sultan Fath 'Ali'. The ox-headed mace is associated with the hero of the Shahnama, Bahram Gur, who made his weapon in the memory of the cow that nursed him. It was later inherited by other heroes including Feridun and Rustam. An example of an ox-headed mace is in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, Acc. No. 36.25.1882.
