Known for her dramatic performances in Giselle and Swan Lake while she was a member of the American Ballet Theater, she went on to found the Ballet Nacional de Cuba in 1955. With support and funding from Fidel Castro, Alonso sought to democratize ballet, training local dancers and cultivating local audiences. Alonso's radical approach to an elite art form within a socialist framework brought Cuba to the forefront of international ballet. In Dolron's series 'Te di todos mis sueños' or 'I give you all my dreams,' the photographer honored Alonso's revolutionary artistic legacy.
