Elizabeth Debicki (as Princess Diana): A full-length dress with beaded neckline Season 6 publicity Custom-made long white dress with halter neck and lattice and beaded detailing to the neckline Footnotes: This dress is inspired by the Versace gown that Princess Diana wore for her iconic Vanity Fair cover in 1997, photographed by Peruvian photographer, Mario Testino (b. 1954). The photoshoot shows Princess Diana's confidence and independence post-divorce through her natural look and relaxed setting. However, the images have become even more poignant because they were the last official photographs taken of the Princess before her death on the 31st of August 1997. The National Portrait Gallery has a selection of images from the photoshoot in their Primary Collection (NPG P1015 and NPG P1016), as does the Mario Testino Museum (MATE), in Lima, Peru. The photographer stated that 'photographing Diana, Princess of Wales for Vanity Fair in 1997 was one of the most memorable days of my career', and in his museum is The Diana Room, a permanent collection that acts as a shrine to the late Princess. In a glass cabinet, surrounded by images from the shoot, is the white Versace dress that Diana wore for the cover, which was donated to the museum by Donatella Versace in 2016.
