Both the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were keen pianists growing up, and in the 1930s they were taught the piano by Sir William Henry Harris, the St George's Chapel's resident organist at Windsor Castle. Princess Margaret's love of music and the arts continued into her later life, and in 1957 she was made an Honorary Doctor of Music of London University, as well as the first President of the Royal Ballet.
