CATHERINE DE' MEDICI. 1519-1589. Letter signed. One sheet, 12 1/4 x 8 1/2 in., inscribed on one side and signed, addressed on verso to the Ambassador to Spain along with notations in a later, probably 18th century, hand. Fold marks, repair at a fold at left edge, toning to left edge of sheet especially on verso. Mounted on a card with plastic corners. Catherine speaks of the death of Pope Pius IV on December 9, 1565, requesting her Ambassador to ask her daughter Elizabeth to enlist the aid of Elizabeth's husband, King Philip II of Spain, in getting the Cardinal of Ferrara, Catherine's cousin, elected Pope.
