A JOHN F. KENNEDY PRESIDENTIAL MOTORCADE FLAG. Blue rayon with embroidered Great Seal of the President, gold and white fringe to three edges, labeled with Phila. Quartermaster Depot label to interior hoist reading 'Job 5782 ... President of the United States.' H: 18 in; W: 26 in Provenance: Manufactured by the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot, 1961-63; used by President John F. Kennedy during his administration, either on a boat or a motorcade; acquired by Special Assistant to the President Dave Powers, owned until his passing in 1998; by descent to his family; sold at John McInnis Auctions, Amesbury, MA, Presidential Auction, February 17, 2013, lot 481 to Zaricor Flag Collection. The original McInnis auction description mentions that one of Dave Powers' responsibilities as Special Assistant to the President was to see that the Presidential flag, along with the US flag, was flown on whatever car or vessel Kennedy happened to be using, and that Powers acquired this example in the course of those duties. There is some speculation from the Zaricor Flag Collection that this may be the Presidential flag used on the Fort Worth portion of Kennedy's fateful November 1963 trip to Texas.
