In full: 'I have just learned from Rose that you lost that beautiful home in the fire. What a tragedy: your beautiful gardens, period belongings—all gone. / Since you will have to start a new library I would like to help by sending you under separate cover the special leather bound edition of all my books and a first edition copy of Six Crises. / You don't have to read them but they will look nice on the shelves! / Keep up that buoyant spirit which inspired all of us privileged to know you. / Sincerely / Dick.'
