1960 Royal Enfield 150cc Prince Registration no. 988 AGG Frame no. 56551 Engine no. 1776 Introduced for 1959, the Prince was a development of the Ensign, which was itself derived from the 125cc DKW RT-based RE, a model first seen in 1939. Of unitary construction and equipped with a three-speed gearbox, the engine retained the DKW's left-side crankshaft-mounted clutch and right-side final drive chain and, as installed in the Prince, gained full-circle flywheels. Other differences from the Ensign included a new swinging-arm frame and revised cycle parts. A worthy rival to BSA's Bantam but today very much rarer, the Prince remained in production until August 1962. Acquired by the vendor over 40 years ago, this wonderfully patinated Prince has been stored since and will require recommissioning/restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road. We're advised by the vendor that the engine was reconditioned by Veloce after Royal Enfield went into liquidation, however it does not presently turn over. Offered with a V5C, V5 and expired MoT. Key not required Footnotes: All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.
