Henry Cole' above Cole's signature, several other annotations by Cole referring to the Linnell family and authorship of texts, book printed in red and black, general half-title to 'The Home Treasury' series 1-3 dated 1845, plates including 4 hand-coloured chromolithographs mounted on card, some others hand-coloured, 4 tinted woodcut illustrations (one folding) by James Linnell after Lady Callcot, endpapers printed in orange and gilt advertising, Joseph Cundall contemporary maroon morocco gilt over boards for Hayday, covers with panel design with ivy leaf corner-pieces, g.e., joints slightly rubbed, 8vo, Joseph Cundall, 1845 Footnotes: Henry Cole's own specially bound copy of a book he wrote under his pseudonym of Felix Summerley, and for which the artists John, William and James Linnell specially hand-coloured some of the illustrations. Cole notes in the book who coloured which plate, and gives further information on the making of the images (names of artist and engraver), and that John S. Mill's sister Harriet was the author of the section devoted to Durer. Ruari McLean noted that 'Cole was a great salesman, and gave the Home Treasury [series, of which this one] the most distinguished design treatment ever given to children's books', including the fine typography undertaken by Charles Whittingham.
