Munby ('She stood, where I used to wait/For her, beneath the gaunt old yew...'). Exhibited: 'The Drawings of John Everett Millais', Arts Council of Great Britain, 1979, lot 81, lender's label on verso of frame; 'John Everett Millais. Illustrator and Narrator', Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, 2004, p.29. Catalogues, and exhibition ephemera to both exhibitions are included in the lot. These include the private view invitation to the Bolton Museum showing of the 1929 exhibition for which 'Violet' was used as the illustration. Provenance: J. Maas & Co.
